Chemical Products

Sunniland provides a variety of lawn and garden chemicals to protect your plants against weeds, insects, and diseases.

Understanding the purpose of each chemical type and applying it properly are vital to ensuring the health and safety of:
  • Yourself
  • Your family
  • Pets and other animals
  • Your plants

When using a lawn and garden chemical:

  • Read the label before using the product.
  • Follow the provided directions carefully.
  • Do not use the chemical for any other purpose than that stated on the label.
  • Wear protective clothing (such as gloves, goggles, masks, or long sleeves)
  • Do not spray the chemical on a windy day. Drifting chemicals can harm you and the desirable plants.

Garden chemicals are classified into three major types: Herbicides, Pesticides (Insecticides), and Fungicides.

Herbicides are chemicals used to control unwanted vegetation. For home use, unwanted vegetation usually means weeds in lawns, gardens, or flowerbeds. Weeds can ruin the appearance of a landscape and take vital nutrients, water, and air from other plants.

Before using a herbicide, it is important that you know:

  • The type of vegetation you are trying to eliminate
  • The method of control you would like to use

Weeds come in three basic types:

  • narrow leaf
  • broadleaf
  •  vining

Different herbicides may be required to effectively eliminate each weed. That’s why it is important to know what type of weed you are trying to kill before applying a herbicide.

There are four methods of weed control:

  • Applying selective herbicides will kill certain plants without harming others.
  • Applying non-selective herbicides will kill all vegetation to which it is applied.
  • Pre-emergent herbicides kill weeds before they begin to grow.
  • Post-emergent herbicides kill weeds after they have grown.

Please contact a Sunniland representative for help selecting the proper herbicide.

Pesticides and Insecticides are used to kill insects and parasites that eat and destroy plants. Insects respond differently to each pesticide type. Before applying a pesticide, it is important to know the type of insect you’re trying to eliminate. Using the wrong pesticide may not eliminate, or even significantly reduce, the problem.

Pesticides come in two basic types: broad spectrum and limited usage:

  • Broad spectrum insecticides and pesticides control a wide range of insects and parasites.
  • Limited usage insecticides control only a specific type of insect or parasite. Using this type of pesticide incorrectly will not eliminate the problem, and may harm healthy plants.

Please contact a Sunniland representative for help selecting the proper pesticide/insecticide.

Fungicides are used to control plant diseases. Before applying a fungicide, it is important to know they type of disease that is effecting your plant. Some fungicides are used for a specific disease, and applying the wrong chemical will not correct the situation and may further harm the plant.

  • Fungicides come in two basic types: broad spectrum and limited usage.
  • Broad spectrum fungicides control a wide range of diseases.

Limited usage fungicides control only a specific disease type. Using this type of fungicide incorrectly will not eliminate the problem, and may further harm the plants.

Please contact a Sunniland representative for help selecting the proper fungicide.
